The Engineering Project Lead will manage high-value powertrain development projects related to LiquidPiston’s rotary engine technology. This is a “player-coach” role that combines individual technical expertise and hands-on contribution with project management and small team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop project plans outlining scope, goals, requirements, deliverables, timelines, and budget estimates. Continuously reallocate and optimize resources.
- Lead engineering teams on powertrain development initiatives, fostering a fast-paced, agile, collaborative, and innovative environment.
- Provide support, mentoring, and direction, ensuring alignment of team efforts with project objectives.
- Demonstrate deep understanding of mechanical, thermal, fluid, and electronic systems; actively pursue continuous learning in unfamiliar technical areas.
- Ensure engineering solutions comply with industry standards, regulations, and performance criteria.
- Coordinate with procurement and manufacturing to ensure timely availability of resources and hardware.
- Cultivate and manage relationships with contractors, advisors, suppliers, and machine shops.
- Identify risks and challenges related to powertrain projects and implement robust mitigation strategies.
- Maintain transparent communication with team members, stakeholders, and leadership through regular updates, reports, and presentations.
- Implement testing and validation protocols to verify the reliability and performance of powertrain systems.
- Collaborate with internal and external customers to understand requirements, incorporate feedback, and deliver effective project outcomes.
- Maintain an open-minded, resilient attitude and motivate the team through inevitable challenges encountered in research and development environments.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of relevant experience. MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering is a plus.
- Experience in design, integration, and optimization of engines and associated systems.
- Technical depth in combustion engines, rotary equipment, thermo-fluid and electromechanical systems.
- Innovative thinker, with strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to work.
- Proficient in 3D mechanical design and simulation tools (SolidWorks).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially related to project management.
- U.S. citizenship or U.S. Person status is required for this role in compliance with U.S. export control laws.
