Position Summary:
The Dynamometer Technician plays a critical role in supporting engine research and development by conducting dynamometer testing, ECU calibration, and test data acquisition. Working closely with Engineers and Engine Build Technicians, this position ensures the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of engine performance data.


Responsibilities:
  • Set up and operate engine dynamometer tests according to established procedures
  • Perform ECU calibration to optimize engine performance, emissions, and efficiency
  • Collect, document, and review test data using data acquisition systems (e.g., LabView)
  • Assemble and instrument test engines with sensors, fuel systems, and control hardware
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and software issues during testing
  • Support fabrication and assembly of test rigs, fixtures, and custom tooling
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to execute test plans and ensure data integrity
  • Maintain test equipment and ensure cleanliness and organization of the test facility
  • Assist in engine assembly, teardown, inspections, and post-test reporting
  • Contribute to general R&D operations including occasional IT, procurement, or facility tasks
Qualifications:
  • Associate’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, or related field
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in engine testing or R&D environments
  • Strong understanding of engine testing methodologies and performance metrics
  • Familiarity with programmable ECUs (e.g., MoTeC) and engine calibration tools
  • Proficiency in data acquisition systems (e.g., National Instruments, LabView)
  • Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment
Preferred:
  • Experience with fabrication tools (lathe, mill, welding, etc.)
  • Exposure to internal combustion engine teardown and inspection processes
  • Familiarity with test automation or control scripting
